Heat-affected zone ferrite content control of a duplex stainless steel grade to enhance weldability

چکیده

Abstract Duplex stainless steels (DSS) have a microstructure consisting of 50% ferrite α and austenite γ. This two-phase provides the duplex with attractive mechanical corrosion properties. However, is very dependent on heat treatment chemical composition. During welding process, temperature reached in heat-affected zone (HAZ) retransforms into ferrite. Due to high cooling rates, only part retransformed austenite. tends modify 50/50 phase equilibrium. The rate linked not input but also thickness welded plates. Most standards limit content range from 30 70%. 70% for HAZ may be difficult obtain especially heavy plate thicknesses. To maximum HAZ, grade nitrogen nickel within 2205 composition range, called Arctic 2205, was developed. paper will provide details measurement by metallographic method results obtained industrial welds showing low stable HAZ. Mechanical properties these at reported, pushing limits use − 50 °C (− 58 °F) down 100 148 °F).

Interface and Heat-affected Zone Features of Dissimilar Welds between AISI 310 Austenitic Stainless Steel and Inconel 657

The aim of this paper is to characterize welding of AISI 310 austenitic stainless steel to Inconel 657 for use in oil-refining industries. The welds were produced using four types of filler materials; nickel-based alloys designated as Inconel 82, A, 617, and 310 SS. The interfaces and heat-affected zones were characterized by optical and scanning electron microscopy. Interfaces on the two sides...

The Influence of Heat-Input on Structural and Mechanical Properties of 2205 Duplex Stainless Steel

The influence of heat-input and pre-heat treatment on the structure, mechanical and corrosion behaviors of 2205 duplex stainless steel joint by means of GMAW process was the goal of this study. In this regards, the welding process was done using different heat input in the range of 0.6 to 1.4 kJ/mm and different pre-heating treatments in the range of 25 to 100 oC. The microstructural properties...

Local Approach to Fracture of an Aged Duplex Stainless Steel

The local approach to fracture (LAF) is a methodology aimed to calculate macroscopic fracture properties of a body, from the knowledge of the local stress strain field at the fracture site, and the modeling of the acting fracture mechanisms. In the present work, this method was applied to a CF8M steel, aged 30000 h at 325 °C, in order to elucidate if LAF could be able to describe the measured f...
